Project Overview

Light Rail Comes to Austin

The Austin Transit Partnership (ATP) is embarking on a transformative infrastructure project to deliver Austin's first light rail system, approved by voters in November 2020. The initial phase encompasses 9.8 miles of new on-street light rail infrastructure, including the construction of 15 stations, a signature bridge crossing Lady Bird Lake at Trinity Street, and the development of essential maintenance facilities. This comprehensive project will require expertise across multiple disciplines, from civil engineering and structural work to systems integration and architectural design, as it weaves through Austin's urban core from 38th Street to Oltorf and Yellow Jacket.

The scope includes not only track and station construction, but also integrated power systems, modern signaling infrastructure, and thoughtful urban design elements that will enhance the surrounding communities. With an anticipated capital investment of $4.5-4.8 billion through both local and federal funding sources, ATP is committed to delivering this project through partnerships that prioritize innovation, sustainability, and community integration. The project also includes potential future extensions to Crestview and the Airport, offering additional opportunities for firms to establish long-term relationships with this growing transit system.
